Frequently Asked Questions

How do I audition?

You don't need to audition to join NC Pride Band. All we ask is that you have some familiarity and competence with your instrument. Talent levels in the band range from beginner to professional. No one will be turned away or limited because of ability.

What if I haven't played in years?

No one is ever singled out in a rehearsal to be criticized for his/her playing ability. Our director is very approachable and if you feel you need extra help he, or someone in your section, can arrange extra practice with you.

What is the age range?

The group ranges in age from 20 to 65+. Every age should feel pretty comfortable and find at least one other band member he or she would consider an age peer. Also, we have a pretty good mixture of male/female members. Because of liability concerns, all members must be at least 18 years of age.

When and where does the band rehearse?

NCPMB rehearses approximately every other Saturday afternoon in preparation for our regular events. The band rehearses all year long, from marching music to pep band music to concert music there is always some event to rehearse for the band rehearses at Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, (click for directions) which is located in Durham, on Garrett Road, off of 15/501)

What is the attendance expectation?

We ask that you attend as many rehearsals as you can. Please discuss this with the director. If you cannot attend a rehearsal, we ask that you call the director so the director can plan each week's rehearsal more efficiently. In addition, the artistic director makes final decisions about participation -- both in concerts overall as well as on individual parts.

Is there a cost to join?

NCPMB yearly dues are just $20; this minimal amount helps the band pay for the cost of our rehearsal space, as well as other expenses. If unable to pay because of your financial situation, please discuss this with any board member, we do have scholarship programs. Please be aware that only dues-paid members receive the official uniform, are allowed to vote on official band questions, and in the yearly election of the next year's board members.
